| Well I've done what I can. I've been nothing but nice, I've been fair and rational and reasonable. I had to do something and I did it today. We'll see what happens in the next week or so...she knows I am right, she knows why, and she knows what will happen next. I hope I did what was right, I think I did. I've done nothing but my best all year, I have worked hard, and tried hard at everything. I've done my best and I feel absolutley no shame in any of this. There is only one month left of school...it will either go very quickly or very slowly...I'm hoping quickly. I have some things to look forward to...some sweet concerts, an amazing summer on it's way, and a fabulous friend to live with in september. Right now, for the first time in a long time, I feel very content and satisfied. I can look to the not so distant future and know it's going to be good, and I can look back on my year knowing that even though it was hard...ridiculosly hard at times...I did my best and I worked my hardest. I might treat myself to some chocolate tonight, who knows. to keep those of you entertained who will never read a blog unless it has a photo...here you go. I see now the top orchids are kinda lopsided...but overall I was happy with this. Liz and I created this as an option for some foundation at Kwantlen to pick for their gala coming up, we sent 3 choices and they liked ours. we are very happy about that. PS the colors in the photo don't do justice to what it looks when it's actually in front of you. | | |

| This weekend we had my birthday celebrations. I must admitt, last weekend was a pretty darn crappy weekend, actually that entire week was pretty crappy and I did not hold my birthday party hopes high for this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised, Emily showed up, naomi was here, we watched a soccer game in the sunshine, went swing dancing (yes all of you who wern't there should be jealous becuase it was REALLY fun). We went to Luke's house, ate a cake that said Marry me, Love me on it, played some loaded questions, laughed really really hard and I even was serenaded by the brilliant minds and talents of Luke and Todd. Emily and Naomi and I may have taken the long way home that night, but we were up and ready for church the next morning looking good. Church was fantastic, and lunch afterwards with my lovley ladies was really good. we hung around after church and later we took a cold and breezy trip to Whiterock. we took some amazing pictures that will hopefully get posted by naomi when she gets a chance. We're hot stuff. It was really nice to be at the beach and breath in the salt air, oh man I love that smell. After whiterock we tried to rent a movie nd watch it on our tard dvd player, but it didnt' work so we opted for watching oceans elkeven on tv. I faught to keep my eyes open, emily snored, luke and naomi laughed at emily, it was all goodtimes. anyhow, we have a pretty good collection of photos from the weekend, naomi has them all so we're counting on you Nay! Thanks to everybody who came out for my party and for everybody who planned it, you're good friends! | | |
| Class today was about motivation. How do we motivate people who work for us to do a good job? we had a long discussion about what motivates us when we are working. We had along list including things like money, respect, acknowledgement, praise, respect, promotion, self satisfaction, bonuses, etc etc. We looked at atheory by a guy named Maslow, his theory includes a pyramid. he believed that everybody is motivated by certain thigns, ina certian order. starting at the bottom abd working it's way up, people will be motivated by a certain aspect of the pyramid once the aspect below it has been satisfied. I dont' agree with him personally. ok, well I agree to a certain point, but not full heartedly. here is his pyramid:
so the thing that we noticed in our class was that all of the landscaping students were motivated by money while the florists tended to be motivated by actually liking the work, then we found that while the landscapers tended to agree that they were motivated the way this pyramid suggests, the florists thought they were motivated first by physical need, but then skipped everything else and went straight to self actualisation. Self actualiztion is where you get to be independed and creative, and for the most part we didn't really tend to care as much about the other three inbetween. the pyramid we looked at desribed safety as having job security, Love was called "social needs" and was described as basically getting social interaction, and esteeem and self actualization were pretty much the same. what do you guys think? how are you motivated? do you think this pyramid works? | | |
